My Creative Writing Story

My name is Melissa Donovan, and like most writers, I was a reader first. I learned to read at three years old and spent much of my early childhood consuming books. In junior high, I joined the school newspaper and started writing poetry. I had a talent for acing reports and essays, no matter what the subject.

Some of my teachers encouraged students to keep a creative writing journal. Occasionally we were given topics to write about, but mostly it was just a lot of musing and pontification. When junior high was behind me, I continued to write in my journal, and I stuck with my poetry writing as well.

Because I have so many interests, I struggled to choose a major in college. Eventually, I settled on English with a concentration in creative writing. I figured that I might as well hone my natural talents into full-blown expertise. It was during my college years that I truly fell in love with creative writing. Finally, essays were challenging! Classes were stimulating! The literature we read and the pieces we wrote were held up to higher standards, and I sensed my writing was truly beginning to blossom.

What’s This Creative Writing Blog About?

College is behind me now, but creative writing is still very much a part of my life. Something else that’s become a big part of my life is the Internet, and more recently, blogging.

For a long time, I’ve felt that the web is the ideal venue for writers – publishing gets easier every day and there’s plenty of room for all of our words – so a creative writing blog is only natural. Plus, it’s the perfect way for me to combine two of my passions – creative writing and blogging – and share them with other people.

Who's Flying This Ship?

My name is Melissa Donovan. I'm a self-employed website copywriter and web content specialist.

Creative writing is one of my passions. I earned a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing, and I've been a voracious reader for as long as I can remember. I write fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. And of course, I blog.

My goal is to promote great writing, help writers stay inspired and motivated, and to act as an advocate for writers.
