Hot off the Press!

November 10, 2008 · Written by Melissa Donovan

There’s so much news this week, I can barely keep up with it all. NaNoWriMo is well underway and thousands of writers are eagerly pecking away at their novels. New websites are popping up along with exciting opportunities for entrepreneurs. It’s hard to know where to begin, so I’ll start right here at home, and announce the launch of my new website.

Scribizzy - Web Content Writing

I’ve known for quite some time that I would launch a new site specializing in web content writing. This is work that I enjoy immensely and I feel like I’m really good at it too. Now that I’ve been immersed in the world of freelancing for over a year, I felt it was time to truly establish my services as a bona fide business. Hell, call me an entrepreneur.

Scribizzy Web Content WritingScribizzy offers web content writing and related services for website and business owners who want to build a successful online presence (that’s my elevator pitch - like it?). It was a labor of love and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.

The site features a blog that focuses on doing business online and will feature lots of tips and insights that I’ve learned as an online professional. I’ve never really felt that Writing Forward was a proper venue for those posts and now I have a place where they are far more suitable. If you’re interested in setting up an online business of your own, I promise that you’ll find the information in the Scribizzy Blog useful, so please check it out and let me know what you think! Psst… don’t forget to subscribe and leave some comments!

Sticky Business

Scribizzy’s getting its first big push by some long time friends, the Men with Pens. As a participating contributor in the Sticky Business Contest, Scribizzy’s giving away a Website Starter Package. If you’ve ever had a brilliant idea for a business of your own, then this is the contest for you — with nearly $20,000 in prizes for entrepreneurs, it’s a content you simply must enter. While you’re there, check out the Pen Men’s latest site design. They’ve given it quite a makeover!

Updates on the NaNo Front

Launching a new website during the first week of Nano probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but I’m still feeling confident, especially since last night I managed to cross the 10 thousand word milestone on my NaNoWriMo novel. I’m still in it to win it and now that Scribizzy’s all polished and launched, I should be able to catch up quickly. Hey, I’m only about 7000 words behind. Hmph, that’s nothin’!

What news do you have? Making headway on NaNo? Got a new site or announcement of your own? Let it all hang out in the comments section!

Hi Melissa! Congratulations on your new site! I look forward to checking it out. I also like this blog’s design - it’s very professional and easy to navigate.

I think I mentioned before I’m not participating in NaNoWriMo this year (maybe next year). But I’m glad you are making steady progress. That is quite a feat to finish a novel in an entire month.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing from you!

    Brad

That’s great, Melissa! Lots of luck with your new site!

Hi Melissa: I’m bummed that the Men with Pens contest is only for Canadian and US residents. I’m going to go check out your new site, I like the name: Scribizzy :-) Congratulations!

  4. Zoe says:

Wow, congratulations, Melissa! I was just looking at the prizes for the MwP contest, and I was wondering what Scribizzy was…:)

The new site looks great, and I’m excited to go read the blog.

  5. @Brad, Thanks so much! NaNo is quite a feat indeed.

    @Deb (Punctuality), Thank you!

@Marelisa, I’m bummed about the contest because prize contributors can’t enter. Ah well, we’ll just have to keep an eye out for contests we can enter ;)

@Thanks Zoe! I hope you enjoy the Scriibizzy Blog. It’ll be a lot different than Writing Forward, but packed with useful tips nonetheless.

Busy busy busy is all I have to say. Well, that’s not all I have to say, but it’s the first thing I thought of when I noticed it the other day. Maybe it was yesterday… I don’t remember, but I do know I saw the link there and I was like “hey! That’s new…” and trying to pronounce Scribizzy. Not that it was hard. Is this a new thing now, with people naming their blogs words that aren’t found in the dictionary? Not that it’s a problem. Being writers, I think we are entitled. I say that I’m a card carrying poet (poetic license) and I can make up any word I want to fit my vocabulary needs as long as people know what I’m talking about.

Sorry, went off on a tangent. Anyway, I shall be keeping tabs on this new blog of yours since I am a webmaster to my church’s website, and I want the site to have a strong online presence so I will take as much advice as I can get.

  7. Cheryl Wrght says:

Well, see Melissa (Jane) run! Congratulations.

    I wish you every success.

  8. @t.sterling, Tell me about it. I could really use a solid night’s sleep right about now ;) but there is much more work to do. Scribizzy has a blog but its main purpose is to market my website copywriting services. I wanted to get that off Writing Forward - because why would I try to sell copywriting to writers? Um…

As for the name, well, it’s not easy to find an available domain these days, especially not one with a catchy title. And believe me, I’ve been brainstorming domain names for well over a year now. Everything’s taken! So, that’s why I decided to invent a word for the site. Anyway, I hope you find the tips useful over there ;)

@Cheryl, Thank you! I tell you, a web worker’s work is never done!

  9. Karen Swim says:

Melissa, CONGRATULATIONS! Whoo hoo! I love the name and am looking forward to tooling around the new site! I’m also checking on your NaNo progress and cheering you on. I’m amazed any of us are still standing, this novel in a month business is tough work when life does not simply stop for you. :-) Congratulations again and I wish you a big fat universe of success (that’s a lot!)!

  10. Brett Legree says:

Wow! Your new site is just *so amazing* - you’ve worked hard at it, and it shows - good for you!

I can’t wait to have a look at it and see what you’ve got in store.

    Good luck my friend!

    -Brett

  11. @Karen, Thanks so much! It’s been um… interesting… launching a site during NaNo. Maybe exhausting would be a better word. Heheh. If I get a universe of success, I’m inviting you come along ;)

@Brett, Thank you! I’m glad the site is finally up and running. It’s been a long time in the works. But it’s only just begun. I have big plans for Scribizzy and for right here at Writing Forward too. All in good time… :)
