June News – Hire a Writing Coach and Check Out the New Design

istock_000007906517xsmallSummer’s just around the corner. So, fire up your barbecues, wiggle into your swimsuits, and get your summer reading list together. Don’t forget to pack your journal – whether you’re heading out for a day at the beach or a few months abroad.

June is a busy month. Father’s Day, graduations, and weddings are always on the calendar, but my family also has a lot of June birthdays (including mine). Yes, I’m a Gemini – ruled by communication and bound to constant change.

And change has come to Writing Forward.

Need a Writing Coach?

I’m excited to announce a brand new service for writers – a writing coach program. As your writing coach, I’ll help you set and reach your writing goals, and work closely with you to improve your writing. This program is perfect if you are struggling to stay focused on your creative writing projects or want feedback on your writing that is designed to make you a better writer.

In the writing coach program, you’ll get:

  • Weekly tips and encouragement to help you reach your writing goals.
  • Thoughtful and helpful feedback on your writing.
  • Advice to help you improve your writing.

For now, there are a limited number of openings, so if you’re interested, check out the Writing Coach page.

Other Changes at Writing Forward – New Design!

There are more changes at Writing Forward this month. First and foremost, we say goodbye to monthly themes. Instead, there will be balanced mix of writing topics throughout each and every month.

You may have already noticed the other change – regular posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be bonus posts sometimes, too, especially when I have news or announcements to share.

Finally, Writing Forward has a fresh, new design. Love it? Hate it? See something that needs to be fixed? Have suggestions for improvements? Feedback is always welcome.

  1. Hi Melissa,

Saw your announcement on twitter and had to stop by to check your new design out since I’m a design-freak myself. You’ve done a great job with the site. It looks fresh, crisp, friendly and summery.

    I feel like a cocktail now…

The one thing I’m not sure about is the overhanging container of the top navbar. Not sure whether that was intentional.

    • Thanks Monika. A cocktail always sounds good :)

Yes, the top navbar is supposed to be overhanging. I tried it both ways, and it enhances the effect of the shadow and draws more attention to the top navbar this way. I’m still not sure about the shade of green I’m using. It looks good on my Mac but a bit too bright on a couple of other machines I’ve tested it on. I will let it simmer for a bit, and then revisit the design and make some tweaks later. Thanks for your kind words!

  2. Love the new theme! It looks fabulous! :)

    Loved the new theme!

I like how you have a sky thing going on, with the airplane, the parachute, and probably unintentionally, the Twitter bird. The menus at the top are organized very well and everything is clear. It’s time to do something like this since now you have all that content.

They say blue stimulates creativity. We’ll see about that. =)

    • I was thinking that I should get a bird in there (and a kite, a blimp, hot air balloon, etc.) and then ding! It occurred to me to get the bird into the design with a Twitter icon. The first version of the design had a starry sky in the header but it was too busy so now we’re just left with the star in the logo. Thanks Kelvin!

I must apologize, I’ve been reading less these days because your blog is so informative that it’s been a distraction on my job. But I heard throught Facebook grapevine that changes have happened and I must say it’s quite refreshing. I like. And this new design doesn’t act silly on my work PC… which is bad for me because I’ll be going back to my old habits.

In any event, it looks great and hopefully sooner than later I can return to being a regular reader again. :)

    • No apologies necessary! We all get busy. I haven’t made my usual blog rounds for a couple of months, since I’ve been working on this redesign. I’m glad you like it!

  6. J.D. Meier says:

    Congrats and good move.

I really like the picture in the post. The ladybug is ready for action and it’s blue skies ahead.

I like the blue in the theme. I’m addicted to blue.
